Dear friends,
You are far away! I miss you! I loved all the photos you sent me from your adventures lately. Shanghai has been beautiful, but I still can’t believe none of you guys are around. A friend visited from Switzerland last week, and it made me wish I could teleport all of you here for a picnic. Can’t wait to spend time with some of you very soon. 💕
On my walk home tonight, someone yelled, “Hey, do you want to look at the moon?” I looked up before looking to the source of the voice: a bright moon in the middle of a starry and cloudless sky.
“It’s lovely!” I yelled back.
“Come here!” Another voice shouted, louder, and then I saw three people gathering around a telescope the size of a person.
“Do you often take your telescope out for a walk on a night like this?” I asked.
“Not often. I like to look at Jupiter and Saturn more.”
The guy adjusting the telescope was taciturn, so the person next to him talked. “He MADE this. Look,” he pointed at the telescope's body, and I saw a small print of some characters indicating a pipe company.
“Amazing! Do you work for a company that makes telescopes?”
“No, I’m just into maker spaces. It’s a hobby.” He finished adjusting the eye piece and gestured for me to take a look.
Humans and our insatiable wondering about the sky above… I thought.

It was stunning, something I’ve only seen on the cover of National Geographic. “Thank you… This might be the first time I’ve ever seen the moon so close-up in such high resolution.” If I looked for longer I might start crying.
For the rest of the way home. I put Moon River on –– a night that feels like any other night, except the moon is now much closer to my existence.
Big hug,
Erica
